4x4 is a name given to indicate the cross-country car which have 4 wheels. These vehicles are designed to be able to move everywhere, except on the road, thanks to their 4 driving wheels. The 4x4 are generally -imposing and very heavy- cars and they consume a lot of fuel.

These cross-country vehicles were created for a long time ago, at the first steps of the car's creation. The first cross-country vehicles appeared in the '20s. Many cross-country cars, close to the civil 4x4, were used in the army, we all heard about the jeeps. These vehicles able to move in every environment, are very useful to transport men or goods.

Vehicles with 4 driving wheels are also used in sporting races like rallies for example. Enormous 4x4 called Monster Trucks, weighing more than 5 tons, are also used for races in America, or in public representations where these monsters have to crush poor cars.

Consuming a lot of fuel, the 4x4 are generally designed as very polluting cars. Their massive weight and form would make them being more dangerous for the other cars in an accident case.
