It is a word quite broad, usable in much fields: soldier, commercial, communication, policy, social, and in everyday life.

Indeed, a military section can storms an enemy building, a team of the GIGN storm plane where terrorists retained hostages... the word attack is more used to talk about military operation. It translates an offensive made by the force of an entity.

However, we can also take somebody by storm to talk about something urgent, or simply taking the toilets by storm because of a seafood plate difficult to digest. In this case, it is not a question for using the force. The word attack means ?to rush? on something.
