Babar : All The Best Free Flash Games Relating To Babar
Babar is the character of several illustrated children's books created by Jean de Brunhoff.
He first appears in 1931 in France in « The story of Babar ».
Babar starts with a lovely story: that which is narrated by the writer's wife to their two children.
She tells them the adventures of an elephant tracked down by a villain hunter.
Forced to run away from his jungle to escape death, the elephant chooses to blend in with the men's world by borrowing their outfits. When coming back to where he belongs, in the Jungle, he is made kind of the realm of elephants.
Jean de Brunhoff, charmed by the story, illustrates (he's a painter) and fleshes out the adventures of Babar for a book.
The first released book is quite true to the version of Miss Brunhoff.
Yet, some details were added: Babar's mother dies at the beginning of the book, and when he arrives in Paris he gets to know the Old Lady, a kind-hearted woman who will eventually become his best friend.

He gets married with Celeste and together they will have 4 children.
Between 1931 and 1937, the adventures of Babar were released in 7 volumes and 4 millions of copies were sold.
Jean Brunhoff, son of the author, takes up his father's work in 1948 and will release 10 stories of Babar. He will even adapt it for the TV screen in 1969.
Some critics were made about the underlying meaning of Babar: some people see in these stories a kind of praising for the French colonization era.
Indeed Babar, back from the world of civilized men, brought with him some clothing items and started this new trend of getting clothed like “proper men”.
Similar critics were heard about Tintin.
One can also notice that the death of Babar's mother is not depicted in the American version...
