Beauty has always been both a source of inspiration and the intended aim for artists and those who -somehow or other- are searching for aesthetics or beauty. The greatest philosophers got down to define beauty and, the ones after the others, have been confronted to the difficulty of the task.

Can we declare that some thing is beautiful or just affirmed that we find it beautiful? The proverb saying: “every man to his taste” clearly shows the subjective nature of the beauty and the difficulty to share it. However, isn't our perception of beauty already educated, formated by our environment, our personal or even universal culture?
Because we clearly notice that our tastes and desires often diverge from the others'. Yet, if we take a little distance, we can observe more globally that beauty is subjected to the burden of a certain norm, in every part of the world. The norm for some people becomes an extreme for others, politeness in America can seem indecent in Japan for instance, and beauty and ugliness become confuse from culture to culture, references to references. The wood plates some aborigines use to deform their body (lower lip, lobe, nostril...) as to make it more attractive can seem very ugly for some Westerners. Tattoos or subcutaneous implants some body-art enthusiasts expose like the height of a certain beauty...can also scare away the rest of the ordinary mortals!
Yet, all these divergent tastes concerning beauty allow a lot of talking points, as well as the opportunity to discover other world views and reappraise our own...and we're not going to complain about it!

Beauty has this undefinable nature that would better keep standing away from any form of standardization, at the risk to see a universal norm imposed to us all!
