A bomb is an explosive device. The very first bombs were used in 1849, when Austrians tried to destroy Venice. Fortunately, only a few of them reached their target.
Another impressive example of what bombs are capable of destroying is the Wall Street bombing that took place in 1920. This attack was probably a terrorist attack but nothing was ever found because the area had been cleaned immediately after the attack took place, and no evidence could therefore point to those who did that. 38 persons were killed, 400 injured. There are still remnants of the bombing on some walls today, chilling testimony to the fact that the attack was fatal.

But it was during the First World War that the use of bombs was developed. These bombs were mainly dropped from airplanes. During the Second World War, new devices were created, and bombs were attached to parachutes. Today, bombs have evolved, and new types of bombs have developed: atomic bombs, hydrogen bomb, which is the most powerful explosive device ever created by mankind, dirty bombs, and many others.

Some people manufacture bombs that are bound to destroy towns, buildings, and to kill people. Most governments today still have powerful bombs, but most of them do not use them and won't ever use them. They are simply kept so as to show the power of a state, and deter some other states, enemies of those who have the weapon, from planning an attack.
