Book : All The Best Free Flash Games Relating To Book

A book is an object composed by several pages bound together and protected by what we call a cover. Books are the result of some manuscript's publication written by its author. The number of pages in a book is almost infinite, and its size may vary, as well as its matter and printing mode.

Yet, the first books didn't observe this format, paper wasn't produced and the printing press hasn't been invented yet. Above all, we had to wait the birth of the writing, around the 9th and the 4th millennium B.C, before the idea of keeping history alive (that is to say, writing history/ies) gained ground...

In short, we had to wait until Gutenberg's invention of the printing press arrived in 1440 for the first book to see the light of day! Before that, books were named papyrus or parchment and were written on wood, clay, stone, bones, dried leaves or else. They weren't bound but rolled around a stern. The longest papyrus found tells the story of Ramsès III of Egypt: a collage of 40 meters! The Torah -the holy Jewish book- is a volumen, that is to say that the sheet is rolled around 2 axis.

As to distribute several copies of a work, scribes and copyists -depending on the time-, had to copy out manuscripts. Many libraries see the light of the day around the 6th and the 5th century B.C., during the Hellenistic time. The printing's inlet gives birth to a real book market and enable a cheaper diffusion.

Nowadays, however, books begin to be dematerialized thanks to online libraries that allow us to consult complete works on certain sites that distribute them. The 2nd revolution of the book begins to show its face, even if some ones are still reluctant to the “death” of the object-book.
