Casper is an animated character of a cartoon series produced by the Paramount. Casper is a child-ghost whose stories were first intended to be released in comic strips but they did not meet a great success. However, the cartoon adaptation became really famous since its start in 1945.

Casper is a child-ghost character, very kind and eager to make friends with everybody. The nature of his character is not very certain: some argue that he is dead, because in the first episodes he was seen as entering and going out from a marble grave named after him. But some others prefer seeing him as a specie different from that of humans: in the following episodes, Casper has relatives who are ghosts as well.

The episodes starring Casper adopted each time the same pattern: Casper the ghost, walks around the streets, looking for friends. He's very kind-hearted, and wrong-footing the book version, he is not willing to scare people. However, he triggers the same reaction in everybody crossing his path: they jump into the air, pull their hair and scream: “aahhhh a gh-gh-gh-ghost!!!!!” before running away.

Casper was adapted to the screen in 1995. The film relates how Casper ties bounds with a young girl who just moved to his place: a gloomy castle. He's still transparent, and he can still go through walls, but the spectator learns that he died from tuberculosis at age 12. The funny thing is that the girl is played by Cristina Ricci, Wednesday in the “horror” movie “The Adams Family”
