The chainsaw is the modern version of the saw. The latter was probably invented during the Prehistoric period, but of course, its conception evolved in a significant way since then.
Archaeologists found out several tools which were used at the time: blades made of bones. They were mainly used by prehistoric men to cut the flesh of animals they just killed. Of course they were not made of metal because it is only during the Bronze Age period that protohistoric men discovered metal.

The chainsaw is therefore the result of saw's evolution. The first one was created in the early 1920s. The first gasoline-powered chainsaw appeared in 1927.

Today, the chainsaw is part of the standard equipment of a tree feller. But it is also the frightening instrument used in various horror movies. You have certainly heard of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre !
Well, it was a low budget movie met with popular acclaim from the day of its release in the US. That was in 1974. Considered as too violent and gore, the French only accepted to release it in 1982, that is 8 years later...
