Tom's Games > Checkers
Checkers, or draughts in British English, is an abstract strategy board game played by two players, which goal is to take all the opponent's pieces.
Several versions of checkers have existed but the eldest one is said to date from Ancient Egypt 6000 years ago!
The game is played on a checkerboard composed with 100 squares ( 64 in some versions) alternatively black and white.
Checkers differs from chess by the shape and the moves of the pieces. As a matter of fact, all the pieces (20 for each player) have the same circular shape and can only move diagonally. The only exception is the queen.
A queen is obtained when a piece manages to reach the opposite side of the checkerboard. Then, a piece that had been lost earlier can be got back and superposed to the other piece. Then, the queen is allowed to move forward, backward, and in diagonal.
The game ends when a player looses all his pieces, or when the game is blocked (when a player can't move anymore).
If you don't fear playing chess jump over checkers' pieces, this game is made for you, and Tomsgames is here to offer you a large choice of such games.
