Video games that are based on cinema take up the world or the characters from an existing movie. These video games are usually very expected by the public, especially if it's a big Hollywood production and if the promotion about the coming of the video game has been actively spread.
Although very awaited by the public, those video games leave most of the time a lukewarm opinion to the players. Indeed, to get a strong marketing impact, video games that are based on a movie must be released very soon after the movie does, if not at the same time. So there is a very few time for the ones who imagined the game to create a game that is complete on every aspect. Those games generally don't get sufficient finishing to satisfy completely the critics, as well as the most demanding players.
Numerous games that took up the world and/or the characters from movies didn't get to reach the same success the movie did. Among others, we could name the series of games based on Shrek, Ice Age 2, or Iron Man. However, the Harry Potter game or the South Park one, if they didn't get good critics by the press, did get a great success amid the unconditional fans.
Yet, every rule has its exceptions, and if there is a game based on a movie that made unanimity, it is without contest GoldenEye007 that came on Nintendo64. The game was launched in 1997 in the US, whereas the movie had been released in 1995, so it let some time for those who develop the game to take care over their creation. The game has been a sensational success and, long after it was released, it remains a major game in the FPS domain. A lot of players are still playing this version of the game, which is more than 10 years old by now!
