Tom's Games >  Coloring

Coloring books are a must-have in kinder gardens! Coloring an image is quite simple: you just have to add colors on a line art (a colorless drawing)

As soon as they're old enough to hold a pencil, children love coloring books. The pages of these books offer many portrays from everyday life sceneries and many wonder world pictures. Adding colors on these « scenes » bring into life the black and white drawings!

Some coloring books contain reproductions of real paintings (the Mona Lisa...) for children to glow the cheeks of the darkest characters from the history of art!

When comes the time to learn how to write, children have often great difficulties to be the masters of their hands: they draw clumsy lines. The “line arts” from coloring books are like limits indicating the children that they must color inside the image and not outside. When they'll be asked to draw letters in-between two lines, the children who had the chance to discipline their strokes of color-pencils will encounterless difficulties than the others.

Coloring is even a “professional” activity: a comic book is often the result from the joint work of a writer, an illustrator and a colorist. The colorist has a difficult task to accomplish: he must brush tiny details with a pencil, without betraying the general atmosphere that the authors had in mind for their comic. Coloring, that was also a practice of Hollywood studios before color movies were made possible. “Colorists” added color directly on the film reels!
