Counter-Strike or CS, is an Internet (or Local Area Network) multiplayer only First Person Shooter (FPS). This game was born on the foundations of Half Life, developed by Minh Le and Jess Cliffe, the first opus was released on 18 June 1999.

Originally CS was an add-on for Half Life. The principle is simple, two teams fight against each other on a map, there is a terrorist team and a counter terrorist team both respectively composed of the best counter terrorist unit in the world (French GIGN, British SAS, American SEAL Team and German GSG 9) and unknown terrorists groups. The maps come with different missions : to find and defuse a bomb, destroying the opposing team several time. The achievement of these goals allows players to accumulate gaming experience and money to purchase of equipment and weapons before each round. Weapons and equipment are very realistic to provide a real strategy FPS experience, you definitely cannot play CS like a doom-like game or you will get kill in no time!

The game is now in version 1.6, called Counter Strike Source (or CS: S), it uses the Source Engine graphics engine used in the development of Half Life 2, which has not convinced the public, which has a strong attachment to the first version. Since its release on November 8 2000, Counter Strike has experienced an unprecedented success on the Internet, and is the world most played online FPS.

The biggest LAN ever played gathered 1073 people (on CS 1.1) in Sweden and lasted 3 entire days!!
