Tom's Games >  Creation

Generally, a creation is the product of one's imagination or the result of a research that led to something concrete : an object, a book, a machine.

We talk of creation especially in arts for it is in this field that creativity is best to be expressed. In that case, a creation is something that is new, didn't exist before and for which we are the creator, the director, the instigator. Creating is the proper of an artist who is bound to produce an original and innovative work. Reproduction, in that sens, is anti-artistic.

Despite some exceptions in art which, during the reproductivity era, pushed themselves forward and had a great success as original works. For instance, The fountain by Duchamp, is actually no more than a mass-produced bidet exposed up and down and signed by Duchamp's hand.

Another example are Andy Warhol's silkscreens. The man was a great artist who developed the pop art movement in the United States during the 1960's. By using advertising logos to create works of arts, Warhol was pointing at the possible drifts of mass-consumption and at how powerful and influent are images. Consumption being for him, somehow, synonymous of death (the art's one?). In any case, we'll always have in mind his Marilyn Monroe silkscreen (Marilyn, 1962), which is still very reproduced today... almost excessively!

By creation, or Creation, we may also think of the world creation, religious or mythological. The Genesis book, coming from the Judeo-Christian beliefs, tells the story of the universe creation by God, who needed only seven days to accomplish his work! Mythology proposes hundreds of different versions that explain the creation of the world, and it would be impossible to mention them all here... but you may find games that will enlighten you, who knows?
