Dakar : All The Best Free Flash Games Relating To Dakar

The Dakar is a professional rally-raid event and a specific branch of the auto racing sports category. It musters annually drivers from many countries, driving cars, trucks or riding motorbikes. The first event was held in 1978 after Thierry Sabine, a motorbike rider, has had the brilliant idea to turn one of his driving experience (when he got lost in the desert), into a sport competition.

The Rally-raid Dakar events have been mainly run in Africa, where the terrains offer challenging driving conditions. It used to be named “Paris Dakar”, because the starting line remained for long located in Paris.

Since 1978, the Dakar is an off-road racing event: drivers don't mingle with cars from the road traffic. They are asked to traverse very tough terrains. It is really more of an endurance race than a walkover (or drive-over): drivers run on any kind of off-road terrains, and the course is staged in several sections like crossing dunes, rocks, muddy lands... The desert-stage of the competition is probably the most funny thing to watch for a TV spectator: many drivers get stuck in the sand, and are constrained to step off their car and start the real physical job: trying to push their car from the Sahara nightmare.

But the Dakar sometimes turn into an object of shame for the western countries. Wealthy drivers cross Africa regardless the conflicts in many countries and the severe poverty that hit the population. The Dakar is largely covered by the western media though only a minority of reporters seems to be keen on shooting Africa when this rally competition is off. The political instability of some countries pushed many times the organizers to divert the official path for vehicles.

The Dakar records sometimes sad and awful news of children dying because they were standing on the rally course. Last but not least, Dakar is the last trip for some drivers, among which the first organizer Thierry Sabine and the French song-writer Daniel Balavoine, who died when participating to the event.

As Renaud, a French song-writer, sings: the Dakar it is also “500 assholes on the starting line”.
