Death is the end of life. An individual is dead when his vital functions do not respond (by reflex) any longer. His heart stops beating, his blood stops circulating, his brain stops sending signals to the body.

Death is the most democratic thing that is on earth: everyone is doomed to die. Every living thing, human beings, animals, plants, will know the same lot. Men is endowed with intelligence, and has the ability to think about the future, and to keep in memory what happened in the past. They consequently have the capacity to look for what's the meaning of life, and consequently of death.

Nobody knows for sure why there is life and death but a majority of people find an explanation in religious doctrines.
Religions brought an answer to this to the poor ignorant souls that we are: there would be an after-life. In some beliefs, death would be the passage from one state to an other: for instance, a man could reincarnate in a cat, in a woman, or in a crab...

A lifespan stretches from a few minutes to an average (world average)of 70 years and more.. The latest oldest man on earth was 138 when he died, when we could considered that Jesus Christ, who died at 33, died as an “old” man for his era.

The cause of death can be natural, or provoked by an external element: wars, suicides, murders , overdoses, accidents, death capital... Epidemics have been the cause of massive death. The Spanish fever ( that cost 40 millions of lives in 1918), the plague and nowadays AIDS led to the death of millions of people.
