Tom's Games >  Dodge ball

Dodgeball, also known as Murderball, is a team sport usually played in physical education classes. It is generally practiced in elementary school, but became very popular in higher grades, secondary and university levels. It is also popular in informal settings and is often played in the schoolyard, in the gym, or in organized recreational leagues. There are several variations of this game, but generally, the main objective of each team is to eliminate all members of the opposing team by hitting them with a ball, by catching a ball thrown by a member of the team opponent, or forcing them to move outside the boundaries of the field when a ball is thrown at them.

Teams consist of four to ten players on each side of the field, even though six players is a more frequent training. After a player is eliminated, he may rejoin the game if another player of his team catches a ball thrown by the opponent (as long as his team is not the maximum number of players on the field). Players must enter the game in the order in which they were eliminated.

Some leagues allow players who have been eliminated to help their team, while in other leagues eliminated players are forced to remain in an area at the back of the field and have no right to participate in the game until they are allowed to go back on the court.

Rawson Marshall Thurber's film entitled "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story", released in 2004 starring Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller has certainly contributed to the revival that this sport has seen in recent years.
