Tom's Games >  Domino

Dominoes (or dominos) is a board game that can be played by a maximum of 6 players.

This game is said to have Chinese roots. It is said to be derived from Indian dice game, but instead of using dice, Chinese people have replaced them with little rectangular pieces : dominoes.
Dominoes are made of wood or ivory and separated in two parts by a metallic rivet. A traditional domino set contains 28 pieces, but some sets can contain up to 190 pieces!

Like on dice, each part of a domino contains a number of point from 0-0 to 6-6.
Dominoes are played as it follows : After the distribution of all the dominoes face down, each player must place a domino having the same amount of points than the previous one just next to it. The goal is to be the first to place all one's dominoes or to have as few points as possible on one's dominoes when the game is blocked and no more domino can be placed. That is why a key strategy consists in getting rid of one's dominoes that are worth a lot as soon as possible.

Since 1986, Domino Day has been a real hit! This event consists in striking down as many dominoes as possible in one shot. Dominoes are placed in a special pattern so as to enable a falling domino to bring the following domino down and so on. Dominoes placed side by side, represent fresco of different size and color. In 2008, for the 10th edition of the event, the creators of the fresco broke two records : the record of the greatest number of dominoes struck down (4 345 027) and the record of the highest rate of success (96,6%).
