Tom's Games >  Drawing

Generally speaking, a drawing is the result of a tracing on a sheet of paper. Thus tracing may figure either a representation of an object, a landscape, a model, or on the contrary figure an image that comes from our own imagination.

The drawing techniques are numerous and use various materials: for instance, we can draw with our fingers and use some carbon powder, with a charcoal crayon, use a paint brush, a quill and some China ink, pastels (dry or oil ones), and so on.

According to the time you spent on a drawing, to the precision of the line, to the more or less realistic approach, we would talk of a sketch, a draft, a portrait, a caricature, a technical drawing, and even sometimes a work of art! Some artists use drawings as a first approach before the creation of a painting for instance. Thus, they can have tries, note down some proportion marks, work on the perspective effect and get an outline of their future painting. Therefore, drawings are very useful for them.

We can also become a professional drawer. In that case, drawing is -above all- the opposite of an artistic one for it has a technical vocation. Technical drawing is very useful in the architecture domain, where the need for plans are necessary before making any project of construction. Technical drawers are also led to draw mechanical parts for an enterprise, models for future cars, or for stylists...

yet, some professional drawers work in the artistic field as well. For most of them, they are illustrators. They are needed for the creation of a comic, cartoon, and sometimes for video clips. Indeed, an author is not always capable to illustrate his own ideas as he wishes to. So he appeals to an illustrator, who takes care of the characters and the world creation the author has imagined.
