Freedom is a concept that states on one of the human fundamental rights, that is to say being free. But what is to be free? Well, it means not being a slave, not belonging to someone who could buy us, sell us and dispose of our self as an object. While slavery has been abolished, there are still today -unfortunately- some forms of slavery said to be “modern”.

However, there are also another idea of freedom : freedom of thought. This moral freedom, we might think, cannot be taken away from us. Yet, it happens when someone who is a really good speaker and very influential one wants to convince to influence or even impose his thinking to others. When this method is applied massively to a people, we talk of brainwashing, that is to say that people are forced to banish any personal idea or opinion from their mind.

Yet, those who are lucky and dispose of their physical and moral freedom often fight for their freedom of speech. For humans, by nature, have this visceral need to be free and do not like to be forced to do things unless the latter have been proved to be better for their whole kind, or for their fellow-citizens. For instance, respect -if observed by everybody- allows us to be free of doing what we want to, believe in what we want to and make what we want of our body. Hence, laws are there to constrain some liberties as to give us -in exchange- some rights, valid for all.

Hence, freedom appears to be a real need, and we must consider it as such to allow everyone to enjoy this fundamental and vital right. For no one can blossom without having this feeling of liberty: being free to be, act, think and evolve as we wish to.
