Tom's Games >  Guitar hero

Guitar hero is a video game that was released on PS2 in 2005. Since then, the game met a worldwide success. The budding musicians can test their sense of rhythm and their thumbs’ agility in this rock music simulation. In Guitar Hero the remote is a plastic guitar on which color buttons replace the strings.

The menu offers several setting possibilities: a career mode, in which a player must unlock several songs to have access to bonus, a multi-player mode, and the choice between 4 levels of difficulty: easy, medium hard and expert. A list of popular rock songs that the player needs to complete is then displayed.

When a player chooses a song, a virtual on-screen fret starts scrolling just as the first musical notes are played. The on-screen fret displays a series of notes (looking like circles of color) corresponding to specific sounds heard in the song. The player must press in time on his guitar the button corresponding to the color-note displayed on-screen.

Guitar hero managed to create a real world apart, in which players can choose the guitar of their dream, the guitarists they want to play with and the musical scene on which they wish to perform their guitar solos. A color scale, called a “rock-meter”, oscillating from dark red to bright green, gives the player an idea of his degree of success when playing a song. If this cursor remains for too long in the red, it means that the player's performance is not enough to end up the song..

8 types of Guitar hero games were released. The former guitarist of the Guns and roses and the former guitarist of Rage against the machine were both virtually featured in the game, with their casual outfits and their mythical guitars (Les Paul and Stratocaster)
