Hair-dressers work on an incongruous piece of material: our hair! Hair dressers, also known as “hair-stylists”, either provide their services at customers' homes or work in a hairdressing salon.

Someone who became a hairstylist studied for several years. He or she usually gained experience in the field by being a trainee in a salon. His or her final practical exam usually consisted in doing a “complete” hairstyle, from the cut to the dying.

Hairdressers are multi-tasked worker: they shampoo their customers, cut and fashion their hair... Their have plenty of accessories: scissors, combs, spray, iron, hair-dryer: they are fully equipped to do all sorts of hairstyles.

If you fancy being a hairstylist, you need to have a creative sense: customers usually go to the hairdresser because they want to change their look. Some of them have no precise idea in mind of how they want their hair to be done, they just want to feel better. A hairdresser takes responsibility for the final results: he knows that a new hairdo can either cheer someone up or affect his mood.

But many customers step into the salons pointing at the cover of a magazine and saying “ I want Jennifer Aniston's hairstyle or the curls of J.Lo”. A hairdresser must also cut several customer's hair in a row, do the hair layered in the same manner all day long...

In the Anglo-American world, the hairdressers who specialized their occupation in men's hair-care are called Barbers.
