Harry Potter is the name of a series of books (7 volumes) written by Joanne Kathleen Rowling. She depicts the adventures of an wizard apprentice named Harry Potter throughout his schooling at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The universe portrayed by JK Rowling is a world where witches and wizards have their own government, their own laws, currency, means of transportation and communications, institutions, and cultural references (such as Quidditch, their favorite sport played on a flying broom), while hiding their existence in the eyes of normal people (known as Muggles).

The place where almost all events of the books take place is the prestigious school for wizards: Hogwarts. This school has over 1000 years of existence and is led by Albus Dumbledore at the beginning of the saga. Schooling lasts seven years. Upon arrival at Hogwarts, new students are divided into four groups called "houses" named after the founders of the school: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slythrin, each possessing its own history and its own peculiarities.

During his schooling years Harry Potter will end up confronting the terrible Lord Voldemort. the murderer of his parents, on several occasions. While the main character is obviously Harry Potter, his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger are also very present and help him through the various hardships paving the way.
