A heaven on earth , that's what Hawaii is! 50th American State since 1959, its population almost multiplied by 10 in a bit more than a century: in 1900 there were around 150,000 people living on the islands, in 2008, they are around 1,300,000!

Hawaii is the only American state to have two official languages (Hawaiian and English). It is also the only one not to be on the continent.

Hawaii is made up of several islands, and its archipelago is one attracting the most tourists. Well, its climate and temperature have a lot to do with it. The average temperature throughout the year is 77°F, and it never gets any lower than 63°F. In addition to the island attracting many tourists, loads of amateurs of surf sports come every year.

The greatest surfers on earth gather at Hawaii to surf the biggest waves on earth. The famous “jaws” hits the archipelago for a few days every year. This huge wave may reach 85 feet height (in 1998, Laird Hamilton was the first surfer who surfed on such a huge wave, which is still considered as the greatest performance ever for a surfer).

But Honolulu is also known as the birth place of a famous American politician and current president of the United-States: Barack Obama!
