Tom's Games >  Invasion

By definition, an invasion is a strategic action led by an army. It aims at destabilizing a target state or territory.

The latter can defend themselves by using various means: by erecting protective constructions – such as the Great Wall of China – or by passive or active resistance.

Most invasions are done to gain and maintain control over the target nation on the long-run. It is therefore necessary to deploy massive and impressive troops to reach their goal. Invasions are very often defined as wars. The outcome may vary depending on various factors such as: goal, method, if an agreement is envisaged between invaders and natives.

But most of the time, no need to make a secret of it, many human lives are sacrificed to gain control over target territories. Unlike wars breaking out in some countries, invasions take natives by surprise whereas invaders are well informed of the strategy they have to follow.

One of the most famous movies starring Mel Gibson actually deals with Scotland's invasion. It tells the story of Sir William Wallace, nicknamed “Braveheart”, who, for many years, fought against the English before he got executed.

And another anecdote about the Second World War this time. More than 156,000 allied troops were sent to make the German army draw back!
