Tom's Games >  Juggling

Juggling has become both an art and a sport. Already practiced during the reign of Pharaohs, for some frescoes show jugglers, juggling has evolved quite a bit throughout the centuries.

At the very beginning, this art was very much appreciated, notably during the Roman Empire, the interest it aroused considerably decreased, insomuch that jugglers were considered as persons whose moral values were questionable.
In the Middle-Ages, some of them were thought to do witchcraft!

Juggling may be practice alone or together with other people. The game involves that the person successively throws and catches the objects thrown in the air. At first, these objects were balls, but, as times change, a variety of new items have been used. Thus, today, jugglers use clubs, balls, eggs, hats, inflamed torches, and so on.

Today, juggling is practice everywhere: in circuses, for kids awakening, in the streets...
From the 1970s, juggling left the circuses and took to the streets !

This art transformed into a sport. Juggling has now its own federation. The World Juggling Federation organizes a competition every year. Of course, they are true professionals who achieve these performances! They do not use 3 balls to juggle, but around 10.

Time record for juggling with three balls was broken in 1996: 11 hours, 4 minutes and 22 seconds...
