Tom's Games >  Kick boxing

Kick boxing is a combat sport dating back to the 1960's and that was pioneered by the American and the Japanese.

As implied by the name, this sport combines the use of one's fists to punch in the manner of boxing fights with that of kicks as in martial art combats. It's therefore a full-contact discipline, developing and training every part and almost every muscle of one's body, and is sometimes used in self-defense courses.

It is practiced in a ring where 2 kick boxers compete. In the American way of fighting, the rules constrain boxers to limit their kicks above the waist to ensure safety. The Japanese rules, deriving from Thai-boxes, grants way more liberty to the boxers, who are allowed to use their elbows and knees to kick in the lowest part of the body.

In Europe, Kick boxing developed into three categories: semi-contact, light-contact and full-contact.
Full-contact has less rigid rules, as the purpose of a kick-boxer there is really to defeat his opponent with all his strength. Only fee body areas cannot be targeted by the boxers when punching and kicking. The referee has full responsibility to ensure that rules are respected, but boxers have “free hands” to blow their kicks at top speed.

4 ways of punching are used: jab, counter-punch, hook and uppercut. Kicks can be: front-kick, side-kick, roundhouse kick and semi-circular kick, with some variants like
jumping side kick ( a boxer jumps and stretches one leg on the side of his opponent) or jumping back-kick!

The easiest and less-hurting way of being defeated may be the KO! The KO record was established at one second!
