A lion is carnivorous quadruped mammal and is one the biggest feline on Earth with tigers. Adult lions can easily be recognized thanks to their mane, and may weigh up to 500 lbs. Lionesses are smaller and scarcely weigh more than 330 lbs. A big male can roughly eat 15 lbs of meat a day, and a lioness 12 lbs. Unlike other felines, lions live in community and make groups. The average living duration of lions can vary from 7 to 12 years, whereas lionesses can live 14 to 20 years, and in captivity, they may live up to 30 years old.

Lionesses are powerful animals hunting in group, and chase their prey until they get it down. They can reach a speed up to 38 mph but are able to maintain this speed only on a short range. Males scarcely take part of the hunt, they only hunt when the group is attacking very big animals such as buffaloes or giraffes.
