Tom's Games >  Magic

Magic can take two distinct ways. There are those who practice some form of magic said to be occult and use rites and powers as to accomplish some things that are scientifically impossible. Like, for instance, predicting the future, bringing a natural element (fire, wind...) under control, taking possession of a living being or an inert matter from a distance, and so on. On the other side, there are those who use magic to perform shows and demonstrate a great ingenuity as well as an astonishing ability when they manage to make us believe that something naturally impossible has been realized in front of us.

Occult magic has always existed. It takes its roots from religion, which is above all made of beliefs and so is an issue for this kind of practices. Magic brings solutions to those who lost confidence in science and thought any other hope was vain. Because when knowledge has reached its limits, it often leads to faith.

Moreover, we distinguish white magic from black one, which respectively call for the forces of good and evil. White magic is meant to be beneficial for men, helping them feeling better -physically and morally- thanks to potions and other magical incantations. Whereas black magic is maleficent and often used when someone wants revenge or simply want to hurt somebody (make him feel sick, put a curse on him, or even cause hist death!)

Magic, in a way, compensate for science's insufficiencies. And if a phenomenon that we consider as magical is then rationally explained, the magic disappear as it came, just like that!

Magicians on stage, on the contrary, use a relative magic for their powers are in reality some conjuring tricks, which impeccable realization give the illusion of impossible. We also talk of prestidigitation to qualify this way of performing magic, which is very appreciated at circus and other magic shows!
