The Matrix is the name of a film trilogy produced by Joel Silver relating the adventures of Thomas Anderson (Neo, the One). This trilogy spawned in the tortuous mind the Wachowski brothers (Andy and Larry) who directed the movies. The Matrix was released in 1999, and pictures a computer hacker (also working at a major computing company) who will gradually become and discover that the world around him, the very world he lives in wince birth is in “reality” a lie created by machines in order to harvest the energy that the human brain generates when he thinks. Thus he begins his battle (helped by other rebels) against this new reality that is totally hostile to human since they can seldom escape this pseudo reality put before them by thet machines. Helped by a handful of allies, which also managed to escape, Neo seeks to destroy the Matrix.

Two sequels show how they go on fighting against machines and the evolution of the hero who has more and more learnt how to control its powers in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions which pictures the end of the story. All these films have tried to tackle philosophical concepts and sought to make us think about the meaning of freedom and reality. The film is also known to have used the technique of slow motion that allows to slow down the action to theatrical violence with bullets being fired in slow motion for example. These are cult movies that are entertaining and informative!
