Mickey is the most famous mouse on earth. It is the star of several comic strips, cartoons, films, video games and TV shows. It is the iconic figure of the Walt Disney Company and was created by Walt Disney himself, who voiced him at the beginning.

The birth of Mickey Mouse in 1928 is a landmark in the history of cartoons. A bit earlier Felix the Cat was still the first and only cartoon character whose stories were released on the screen, but ironically the Cat's best rival appeared in the form of a mouse and from there we can assume that it is the success of Mickey that fostered a new genre of animated character half way between a human and an animal.

When Mickey first appeared, it was under an other name: Mortimer. But from his beginning until now, he' s always been dressed in the same manner: a red short with two golden buttons, and (from 1929) gloves.

Yet, Disney characters are getting modernized for a few years already. And it's not rare to see Mickey with new outfits.

Mickey is mostly famous now for the many eponymous comic strip series starring him and other Disney's characters. He lives in Mousetown, has a best friend, Goofy the dog, and a girlfriend Minnie. He is a great and very clever mouse, liked by each and all. He likes to stick his mouse nose in dodgy businesses. That's why Chief John O'hara always asks him to ward off the terrible plans of the Phantom Blot.

You can even meet Mickey for “real” when visiting Disneyland or Disneyworld. He figures as the big star in these Disney amusement parks.
