A Monster truck is an off-road vehicle which can be based on a classical car, or being built directly as a Monster truck. These vehicles have oversized wheels and wide suspensions. The first Monster truck named Bigfoot1 was built in 1974 by Bob Chandler. This new vehicle quickly raised curiosity. First of all, it was only created to advertise the off-road vehicles firm owned by Bob and Marylin Chandler, but advertisers started being interested in doing entertainments and shows with these road monsters.

The first Monster truck entertainment occurred in April 1982 in Jefferson City, in the Missouri. The entertainment concept was quite simple, Bigfoot1 had to crush some cars to get the audience pleased. Then spectators gathered several Monster trucks so as to make them battle in any kind of events. Most of the time, the confrontation is an obstacle jumping contest, the winner is the one who manages to realize the highest and the longest jump over various obstacles such as cars, planes, tree trunks or sand dunes.

Several games were dedicated to Monster trucks, some made apparitions in movies. Current Monster trucks have nothing to do with tourism cars, they are made up with truck's elements, or modified coaches. Their body often carries the colours of a brand, of the army or a movie.(Batman, Jurassic Park).
