Tom's Games > Musical
A musical game is a video game genre in which the goal is to manage to follow a musical tempo and to try to keep being in harmony with it. Music games are comprised of dancing games, singing games, and the games requiring the use of musical instruments devices.
There are several types of music games, however, the gameplay is slightly the same for each one. In this way, the games consist most of the time in pushing the right buttons in the good rhythm as the notes scroll down the screen.
All the interest of such games relies on the possibility to use various kinds of devices and controllers. Thus, in games such as Dance Dance Revolution, the player has to step on a dance pad, following a tempo, which gives the player the impression to perform a choreography.
Other games such as Guitar Hero, give the possibility to use instruments. In this game, the players use a guitar controller, and plays the notes by pressing the frets while using the plectrum. The game Rock Band gave more realism to these types of video game by adding to the possibility to use a drum set and a microphone, which gives the players the feeling to be the members of a band.
Music games are getting more and more popular. If at the beginning music games were mainly restricted to video arcades, music games have massively been settling in home video game consoles for a couple of years thanks to the global hit of Guitar Hero and Rock Band.
