The NBA is the most famous basketball league in the world. It gets together North-America teams, that is 30 today. Indeed, the NBA is not exclusively American, for even Canadian teams take part in the competition (just like the NHL). The NBA was created in 1949, after the two major independent leagues decided to join. These were the BAA (Basketball Association of America) and the NBL (National Basketball League).

Between 1949 and 1955, the number of teams taking part in the NBA championship decreased a lot: they were 17 in the beginning, and only 8 in 1955. But everything was accelerated during the 70s, after another rival league was created (the ABA). The two then fiercely fought against the other so as to get the most famous players in their league. However, around 1976, the agree on creating one league, the NAB, on the condition that some ABA teams would be included in the NBA (such as the San Antonio Spurs).

Today, there are 30 teams playing the NBA championship, both Canadian and American. American teams are often in the first places, thanks to unlimited resources of great players within college basketball championships. These places are filled with young talented players who all want to become part of the greatest basketball league.

However, it seems that some other countries will be part of the adventure, such as Paris. Indeed, the mayor of the French capital and the head of the NBA are thought to discuss the conditions under which Paris would be part of the NBA.
