New-York is a city located in the United-States. It started developping during the 16th century when the first Europeans migrated. Originally, New-York was inhabited with American Indians. But the Dutch came in 1614 and called the city "New-Amsterdam". It has become "New-York" after James II, Duke of York. The city's population increased from 30,000 to 123,706 inhabitants between 1790 and 1820.
The 20th century has been a turning-point for New-York City: it has become a world city. The city's architectural adventure began in the 19th century with the construction of the very first skyscrapers. Today, these buildings are visible in all the big cities of The United-States.
