Pacman is a yellow round-shaped video game character created in 1979 by the hand of Toru Iwatani (one of Namco game designer). The aim is to make Pacman move around a labyrinth to pick up all pacgum while avoiding to bump into one of the four ghosts wandering around.

Along the way Pacman is able to pick up several bonuses that will help him stay alive as long as possible. Most of those bonuses are fruits of the variety of which increases with the level and thus the difficulty of the game. The most valuable bonus is a key, which is worth 5000 points and can be found in level 13 and beyond. When players reach a total of 10,000, they are awarded with an extra life. The game includes 255 original labyrinths of increasing difficulty.

When the game was first released in Japan in 1979, its original title was Puck Man (from “paku paku” the Japanese expression to designate the action of opening and closing your mouth repeatedly, just like Pacman) but afraid of the fact that pranksters might scratch the “P” so that it looks like a “F”...

Pacman has experienced a renaissance in the early 2000s with adaptations for mobile phones, like other classics like Tetris and Snake.

The best Pacman player is Billy Mitchell, an American who scored a perfect score of 3,333,360 in 1999. It took him 6 hours to achieve this exploit, picking up every single items or bonuses available and without loosing any life.
