Tom's Games > Passion
A passion may be of different kinds. Originally, the Latin word (patior) meant to suffer. The Passion of Christ recounts -in the Gospel and the Bible- the suffering Jesus endured before and during his crucifixion.
Then, passion has taken other meanings, but still rely on a certain passivity. That is to say that one who feels any passion for someone or something hasn't chosen to feel so but undergoes it. In classical literature, one who knows a passion for someone is designed to have a tragic destiny. Romeo and Juliet's tragedy is one relevant example. Both of them fall in deep love but their respective families are enemies and love, even a passionate one, cannot be of any cure for hatred.
Nowadays, we use the word passion in a more positive sense. A passion may be used to talk of a great interest one's feel for an activity, something or someone. You can have a passion for horses, football or the girl next door. To have a passion is to appreciate something insomuch that you want to devote a part of your life to it.
A leisure activity, when intensively practiced, is often a passion. Ride horses, make buildings with matches or support a baseball team may be an everyday activity. A passion shall not be criticized, or the passionate one will tell you how wrong you are.
When passionated by something, we are often capable of the best. That is why it is a good idea to try to live on your passion, for your job won't be any boring on any respect. That's the artists's lot, their job is also their passion!
