The Playstation 1 was made by Sony, and was released on the European market in September 29th 1995. The video game console was released a few months after the Sega Saturn and completely overwhelmed it before the end of the year. Today, the number of PS1 sold all over the world is estimated at more than 100 millions since it was released. The Playstation 1 was the fifth generation of video game consoles, and had a 32 bits processor and a CD ROM reader allowing to read video games and music as well.

Sony risked pentrate a market it didn't hold yet, and did it successfully. The console had such graphics possibilities that the games released were prettier and prettier. Almost 1 billiard of games were sold worldwide

Before the coming of the PS2 five years after the PS1, Sony launched the PS-One, a more space-saving version of the previous one, with the possibility to add a screen with speakers directly on the console, so as to be used during road trips thanks to the cigar lighter receptacle.

Nowadays, and since the 2 years following the launch of the PS2, the prices of games for PS1 slumped, the games got more and more mediocre, and eventually no more PS1 games were created ; the developers only focused on the PS2.
