Tom's Games >  Pog

A Pog is a thin cardboard slice used to play with or to be part of a collection. Various pictures can be drawn on a pog, but it can also be neutral. The round shape can vary depending on the pogs, as a matter of fact, some can have saw-toothed contours etc...

The name pog comes from a Hawaiian soft-drink meaning passion fruit, orange, guava. The origin of the pog slices comes from the round milk caps that Hawaiian kids used as little toys.

The limit to the success of pogs in the beginning was that they were not customized and they were all made of cardboard. So it was hard to play with during raining days, and if one was dropped in the water, it was lost.
So, in 1995, the inventors decided to create plastic pogs and to customize them. Then, pogs with pictures of famous characters such as The Lion King or Dragon Ball were created.

Pogs form a part of games, such as yo-yo, tamagotchi, or marbles that used to be a hit for a short period in so far as new games quickly replace it.
Nowadays, the generation of kids from 2000 wouldn't even be able to say what a pog looks like, whereas 10 years ago it was one of the favorite games at the recess time.
