Nintendo certainly had a good idea by launching Pokemon on Game Boy in 1996, a media franchise created by Satoshi Tajiri. Pokemon are “pocket monsters” (hence the name: Poketto Monsutā in Japanese) who must be captured using a pokeball and than raised to gain levels and be able to fight.
The most famous of them all is without any doubt Pikachu, a sort of yellow mouse.
Since since then Pokemon has captured the hearts of children, allowing the series to achieve several hundred million in sales for a several hundreds of billions turnover.

A wide array of tie-in merchandise have been made around the Pokemon franchise: anime, comics, trading card, along with up to 10 movies!...The Pokemon series is still exploited with games like Pokemon Diamond version on Nintendo DS and Pokemon Battle Revolution on Wii in the late 2007.

Pokemon includes nearly 500 characters who appeared in the series (through four generations of Pokemon), including the legendary hero Pikachu capable of sending electric shocks, and Ondine an aquatic Pokemon trainer.
