This movement of U.S. origin, appeared in Britain in the late 1970s and peaked in 1976 and 1977.
It refers to a musical and cultural movement whose followers show an attitude of provocation and derision to a society they feel unable to provide any hope to its youth.

This movement expresses a revolt against the values (their motto is anarchy and its slogan no future. The punks claim the cultural renewal, the emergence of a new energy, synonymous with a maximum creative freedom. The term comes from punk, English word meaning worthless.

The punk movement is associated with nihilism, the Dada movement, the anarchist movement and alternative movement (squat, independent labels, anti-militarism, unconventional, vegetarianism, feminism, independent movement, etc).Its associated musical genre is punk rock, with numerous sub-genres such as pop punk, the anarcho-punk, hardcore punk and ska-punk.

Since its emergence in the late 1970s, the punk movement goes on with other underground movements like reggae, thanks to Don Letts (the punky reggae party of Bob Marley and Lee Perry), or ska, to give birth to groups like The Specials, Madness or The Selecter.
