Rangers are a police special unit, especially present in the following US states: Texas, Arizona, and California, and in Canada in the Newfoundland. However, the Canadian Rangers provided law enforcement only from 1835 to 1950 and the unit does not exist anymore.

The rangers became particularly famous through the TV series “Walker, Texas Ranger”. It tells the story of a modern sort of cowboy, who believes in the old American moral values, and who fights against criminals. The main character, Cordell Walker, is played by Chuck Norris, who is also the TV series producer.

The most famous unit, the Texas Rangers, captured or killed some of the most famous criminals at the time of its creation. Out of those criminals, Bonnie and Clyde are probably the best-known outlaws.

United-States ranger units were all created around the middle of the 19th century, except for the Arizona Rangers, created in 1901. California and Texas Rangers were set up especially to fight against Mexicans, at the border between Mexico and the US. California rangers were actually dedicated to finding one Mexican outlaw, named Joaquin Murrieta, and some 30 years after the development of the unit, it transformed into the Californian State Police.

Actually, after they captured Murrieta and his accomplice “Three Finger Jack”, the head of the outlaw and the hand of his friend were displayed so as to prove the arrest and the killing of the two criminals! But many people still believe, as the head did not match the description of Murrieta's, that Rangers killed some innocent Mexicans so as to claim the reward!
