Reptiles are cold-blooded animals, and have the body covered with scales. It is a tetrapod specie, and for most of them they are oviparous.

The firsts reptiles appeared during the Carboniferous period. Many bird and mammal species have reptiles roots. Dinosaurs that were living on Earth during the prehistory are the ancestors of the major part of the contemporary reptiles. Some even crossed the ages, such as crocodiles and constitute genuine living fossils.

There is a very big variety of reptiles having different shape, size, such as lizards, crocodiles, turtles, Komodo dragons or snakes. Their diet highly differs from a specie to another, some are peaceful herbivores while others are dreadful carnivores. The biggest carnivores can be very dangerous for men.

Nowadays, many reptiles are raised ans pets, such as chameleons or various species of constrictor snakes like pythons or boas. As being in captivity in an environment that doesn't suit them, they have to be put in terrarium and vivarium so as to recreate their wild habitation.
