Tom's Games >  Road

Road is a way built in order to make the circulation of any kind of user easier.

The origin of road goes back to two centuries Before Christ in China. The first identified axis is the Silk Road and it connected China to Europe so as to enable trade.
The Roman Empire expanded this system and improved it by adding the first cobblestones. The most famous of these roads is the Via Agrippa and it composed the Gaul road axis as a whole.

The manner of building roads has improved along the years with the use of stone, dirt, or tar. The use of roads has also changed according to the purpose (military, practical, commercial...).
Very often, the growth of a country can be measured by its ease of access. Developed countries have a larger transport system than developing nations.

Roads can be divided in several forms such as freeways, secondary roads, township roads... according to their environments and their frequenting.

Here are some famous roads : U.S Route 66 that connects Chicago to Los Angeles is 2450 miles long and is lined with ghost towns. The Trans-Canada Highway which is 4860 miles long is notably known for having staged the Marathon of Hope in which Terry Fox, a cancer patient intended to run across Canada so as to raise money to be used for cancer research.

Given the fact that roads are easy to build, there are many roads in unusual places such as the road around the Italian volcano Etna, the Passage du Gois in France which is flooded 15 hours a day, or the Norwegian mountain road having 56 bends in a row.
