A sandwich is a form of food made of at least two slices of bread with all sorts of filling-ingredients in between.
Its best asset is that you can eat it without using a fork or a knife.

The name was given after John Montagu, 4th earl of Sandwich.
A popular myth tells that Mr Montagu was served the first sandwich ever made when he was playing cards at a gambling table.
As he couldn't leave the table to sustain himself, he asked his servant to layer meat and garnishes between two slices of bread.

For Mr Montagu, this new dish was advantageous for two main reasons: it allowed him to stay at the gambling table while eating without greasing his hands.

The first sandwich was composed with cucumbers and salt beef.
The legend has since been busted, and even though Mr Montagu was very fond of this form of food, his accurate role on the invention of the sandwich still remains controversial.

Nowadays, there is a great diversity of sandwiches,
in France, the most famous type of sandwich is “le Parisien”: a piece of fresh baguette coated with butter and filled with a slice of rolled ham.

Around the world, the most popular and spread types of sandwiches are Burgers (or Hamburgers).
Originating from Germany, these sandwiches are yet an emblem of the United States.
Many fast-food restaurants serve sandwiches.
Kebabs, Hot dogs...all these specialties were also based on the way sandwiches are prepared.
