Sega : All The Best Free Flash Games Relating To Sega

Sega is an American-Japanese company which develops and publishes video games. It also makes arcade cabinets and used to create video game consoles. The company was set up by David Rosen in 1954, and the name is a mix of the words Service and Games.

In the first place, the company set up by Rosen was supposed to make entertainment machines for the American soldiers living on the American military bases in Japan.

Sega used to make video game consoles up to 1998. The first consoles, called Sega Mark were launched in the market from 1983. In 1986 Sega created the console that really allowed the brand to get famous, the Sega Master System. It was a 8-bit console, and included a game called Alex Kid, of which the hero became the emblem of the console.

The biggest hit of Sega according to the number of console sold, is the Mega Drive, released in 1988. Sega used to be far away behind Nintendo, but it was the first time that Sega managed to get at the same level as Nintendo, thanks to the Mega Drive. 29 millions of Mega Drive were sold worldwide, and it was a serious competitor for the SNES. But with the commercial failure of the Sega Saturn and the Sega Dreamcast, Sega decided to stop creating video game consoles, in order to focus on the game development.

The emblematic heroes of Sega are Sonic the Hedgehog and Ecco the Dolphin. The most famous games are (not to mention the games including Sonic and Ecco) Virtua Fighter, Shenmue and Virtua Tennis.
