Tom's Games >  Ski jumping

Ski-jumping is a sport originated from Scandinavia.
The first competition was organized in 1862 in Norway and the 1924 first Winter Olympic Games included it on its program.

A ski-jump is a three-stage process.
The skier dashes forward on a kicker and ate the edge of it propels himself into the air to finally land on his skis.
He needs to gather speed to perform the best possible jump.
The kicker is covered with a thin layer of snow, allowing him to reach a maximum speed of 90km/h.
He then needs to make an impulse at a strategic moment.
“flying” into the air, several factors will influenced on the length of his jump: the impulse quality, the position and weight of the jumper, and the wind.

The final scores are determined according to a system based on style and distance.
If a jumper fails to land on his skis, he will lose points in style; and if he performs the best distance he will get the highest number of points in this category.

Apart from the inherent risk to this sport, another physical danger strikes the ski-jumping circle: anorexia
Alarmed by the extreme thinness of its members, the International Ski Federation decided to strengthen the legislation concerning skiers' weight.

The world's longest ski jump was performed in 2005 by Bjǿrn Einar Romǿren.
This Norwegian skier jumped a 239 meters length.
