The snow is a form of precipitation, just like rain or hail. Unlike the two lasts, snow is constituted by crystallized ice. The little particles that form the flakes may form very light flakes or more compact ones, depended on their density. It is because water vapor condenses in high atmosphere layers that flakes are created and fall then more or less fast depending on their structure.

In very cold clouds, water vapor condenses in ice crystals on particles in suspension. If temperature is under zero, crystals gather together to form flakes larger and larger.

Snow is very appreciated by children. In western countries, it snows only a few times per year, which makes snow a great event and almost a show. Children like to make snowmen in their backyard or at school, they also love to play snowball fights with their friends or siblings. Often synonymous of winter, it might snow during autumn or spring, but very rarely in summer.

Snow is also a symbol for Christmas time and is very used in commercials and by the movie industry to picture a lovely and romantic Christmas day. Snow allow us to practice winter sports, like ski, sled, or rackets. To enjoy winter sports, we go to the mountains were the snow falls in great quantities and allow us to enjoy this white blanket for the whole winter season!

If you are very patient, you may take your time to build an igloo! You will need blocks of hardened snow to use as bricks to build it. Then, when you are done, you can make it harsher by covering your igloo with iced water!
