A soldier is a member of the army of any country. It is the very first military rank, and indeed, new soldiers are called recruits. Soldiers are the first line going in contact with the enemy, and have to know how to handle firearmes and any appropriate equipments. They have to follow a very strict discipline and obey with no reluctance to the orders of higher ranked persons.

In a wider point of view, the word soldier car refer to any member of the military corps. Thus, a soldier may have a field activity, or a commandment activity, or operate in an office. So, soldiers are found in a large sample-group of functions, whether it is in the Navy, in the Air force in the cavalry, or in the infantry.

Soldiers are toughly trained so as to defend their country in case of a dread whatever it may be (war or terrorist dread). A misunderstanding can be made between soldiers and mercenaries, but they are different in so far as mercenaries don't serve by patriotism, but only for the money.

Soldiers also often attend punctual events such as commemorations or celebrations, where they parade.
