Street Fighter is a one of the most popular series of fighting games since the release of the first opus in 1987. He has since been followed by many sequels. The first Street Fighter was present as an arcade game in which the power of the blows was proportional to the the pressure applied on the buttons by the players. The idea was abandoned after the destruction of some arcade machines by some over excited players!

In these games, you can compete in face to face fights: one player against another, which can be a human opponent or the CPU. Each player has special moves, and the best fighters from Street Fighter are available after beating the original 8 opponents. In order to win, there are many fighting techniques and special moves that you can learn along the fights, such as blocking the opponent on the side of the "ring" so that he cannot step back to avoid your blows.

The Street Fighter series is well-know for its second episode Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior, released in 1991. Back in that time, the notion of “special moves” (which are nowadays unavoidable in a fighting game) was revolutionary! (that explains part of its outstanding success).

In 2009, Street Fighter (IV) was adapted on HD game consoles (Xbox 360 and Playstation 3) after its released on arcade machines one year earlier.

On February 23th 2009, Zak Bennett entered into the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition for achieving 108 fights without being defeated in 4 hours time. This record took place in London, 3 days after the official release of the game.
