Tom's Games > Surf culture
Basically, all the sports of the new generation could be integrated into the category of surf culture. These sports appeared thanks to the arrival of the new urban means of transportation (rollerskating, skateboard...)
The apparition of the freestyle concept widely contributed to the development of the surf culture. This concept, applied to water sports or winter sports that already exist, enabled the creation of new disciplines.
The evolution of the equipment, and the use of new materials, more modern, resistant, and effective, also played a major role in the development of the surf culture.
The surf culture gathers different sports that can be practiced on three major types of fields. In this way, we can distinguish the water sports, the winter sports, and the urban sports. Most of the time, a discipline can only be practiced on one kind of field. Nevertheless, some sports are not restricted to only one particular surface, such as hockey, boardercross or kitewing.
Among the water sports, the most famous and practiced are windsurfing, water skiing, and of course, surfing. On dry land, the most famous sports belonging to the surf culture are skateboarding and rollerskating. Ice skating, skiing and snowboarding are the most practiced sports in winter.
